93 Civic Slow oil pressure build up
Hello. It has been awhile since I have posted. I am still having trouble with my rebuilt civic lx engine. D15b7.
In the morning or after not using it four hours when I turn it on the oil light stays on for about 3-5 seconds. After the 5 seconds, the light turns off. At idle I get about 10psi, so it is getting enough pressure after waiting. But before the rebuild it never took more than half a second. All the gaskets are placed correctly.
I am thinking a leak (tiny crack) in the crankshaft or what holds the crank to the block. And it is emptying the oil lines and it takes awhile for the punp to refill everything and gain pressure. But how could I test this?
During the rebuild I did change the block, crankshaft, and thing that holds the crankshaft (cant find its name).
How can I find where the oil lines are leaking? I am about to do the 1000 mile oil change so I might as well lower the oil pan and check.
Other info: The car make no noises, no smoking, nothing out of the ordinary. Working really good after the rebuild.

What bearings did you use. What bearing clearances are you running. Also what weight oil are you now using.
Did you measure your inner and outer rotor and oil pump housing for proper clearances?
Did you remove/replace the oil pressure relief valve or the relief spring from the oil pump?

I did not measure oil pump housing, or change relief vale. But I have changed the oil pump, and the new one does the exact same thing. The problem happend when using sae40 oil for breakin, and now I have 10w-30 and it does the same thing. The bearings are stock, came with the rebuild pack, I cant remember the bearing clearances, I used pastigauge and all I can remember was that they were in spec.
Well then you should see if you can get your hands on a mechanical oil pressure test gauge. At least by putting a more accurate pressure gauge on your block you can see exactly what pressure you have at start up. Could be that you have an issue with the oil pressure sensor.
For whoever wants to know, I finally got the chance to get under the car and remove the oil pan. I replaced the part that holds the main bearings and crankshaft just in case this one had a crack and oil was leaking out of it, just a precaution so I dont have to reopen. I also added liquid gasket to the oil pickup to make sure it was sealing perfectly. Now the oil light goes out after half a second. Finally fixed. In the morning it does turn off after half a second then flashes once really quickly (almost so fast you cant see it). That has been that way since I can remember, if anyone know what it is let me know. Im guessing its probably the oil pump since it is the same old pump. Thanks to everyone!
