Default Starter Solenoid

I have a 92 hatch with a B18C, so I was wondering if the starter solenoid for this motor is the same as any Civic starter solenoid? Also, how come Honda does not sell just the solenoid? I only see the whole motor on Majestic Honda and it's a ton of money!

First off, what makes you think that your starter solenoid is bad?

Intermittently, usually during road trips where my bay gets rather hot, I will get back in the car after stopping for gas and turning the key will do nothing. The power for everything goes on but there is not a sound in terms of clicking where the motor is trying to turn over. This has got to be either the ignition switch or the starter solenoid taking a crap. Usually the ignition switch is never an intermittent problem, right?

i had this exact problem. i was pulling my hair out changing things left and right...... it ended up being that the starters from advanced are ****** garbage (2 of them). Een though they would test it and say it was good over and over again.... i ended up getting a used HONDA one off craigslist and since that day i have never had the problem again. that was 2 years ago.

might not be your problem but i just figured i would share my story it sounds like my exact problem i was having....

Great advice. I do not think I have an advance auto starter though, it is the one that came on the swap when I got it from Steve at HMO. I guess it's some japanese brand, probably just Honda. Thanks for the story, now I am still wondering if I should do the same.. I am going to look on craigslist, but now I ask the question again: which starters can I use? For example can I use one from a D series Civic, or only a B series, if so which ones?

Ok, so that includes LS motor also?

I hope that this problem happens again soon, so I can test a few things out before I buy anything. The clutch interlock switch is the first thing I am going to test for, this might be that switch that is going bad.

I replaced my starter think it was a bad solenoid. Still had the same issue. Ended up being my switch. Just FYI. It is pretty common. Troubleshoot it right

Your clutch interlock switch? I wish I could figure out the problem now, but since the problem is intermittent I have to wait until it happens again. Did you just jump the 2P clutch switch connector and see if it started up when it was not working?

Do a bench test on the solenoid and starter. Or test it while it is in the car.
