Icon2 Cruise Control Issues: 96 Civic

Hello everyone! I drive a 1996 Honda Civic LX 5-speed manual trans with the 1.6L engine. I am having trouble with my cruise control.

Every time i engage the cruise control, my vehicle will engage about 5mph slower than where i set it. After this the car will slowly begin to decelerate another 5mph and hold and then repeat again until the car stops.

If i tap the gas pedal the car will return to the original 5mph lower than where i set it.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Maybe a bad cruise control motor? I was thinking it could be the cruise control computer but i do not think this is the case. Any ideas? Thanks!

Check the cable adjustment and the vacuum hoses for the actuator.

Okay so here's what i got.

I checked the actuator and the cable and here's what i found:

1. I had to pull the cable a good 4 inches just for the engine to raise a little above idle.

2. I proceeded to adjust the locking nut, and found that even if i adjust it to its maximum length it will still not be enough to compensate for all of the extra slack.

3. After i made the adjustment i did give it a test drive and the cruise control performed better but still had quite a bit of trouble maintaining a speed.

The only thing that i can think of is that the cable that is in there is just too long, but i have no idea why it would be unless it had been replaced at some point that I'm unaware of.

Is there some other place where i can tighten the cable even more? and if so where? Or do i need to purchase a shorter cable?

And BTW: The vacuum system seemed to check out okay, i couldn't find any detectable leaks.
THANKS!

Check whether your throttle cable is properly adjusted with respect to free play and deflection. You should have a D16Y7 engine.

Also inspect the cc actuator cable connection at the throttle pedal.
