D16z6 metal on metal noise
Not like a tapping at all, more of a consistent metal on metal sound typically on start up and sometimes idle. Seems to go away when the motor has a load on it, or after it warms up good. But even after a good warm up it will occasionally make the noise sometimes. Any ideas as to what i might be looking at?

I will try to have a video by lunch time. Late for work already. It is an automatic that had started it's life as a manual. Guy I bought it from said he swapped it for a female customer. I've had the car for a little over a month now.

Haven't heard of that swap in that direction - manual to auto.
Curious about the transmission mount to the frame on the passenger side of the car.
The manual transmission mount is longer because the manual transmission sits lower than the frame. I wonder if rather than replace that mount for the shorter auto transmission mount they may have cut the old mount to make it shorter and welded some kind of bolt plate to that. Might be the source of the noise. Look that over and check the torque of those bolts.

I'll go outside in a couple of minutes and check the mount. Here is a video I took yesterday at lunch. Went away when I got her up to 2k rpms.

It got real loud leaving the bank drive thru yesterday after idling for about 10 under no load. Took it a while to go away that time.

It sounds like it's coming from behind the timing cover. Oil pump or waterpump would be my guess. Get a stethoscope and try to pinpoint where the noise is coming from.
My sound card quit working on my computer so I can't hear anything but if somebody heard the noise on the driver side I've had that problem before with a D16Z6. I was lucky it wasn't anything serious behind the timing belt cover but it was the plastic timing belt cover itself. There were hairline cracks around the bolt holes of the upper timing belt cover and it made a loud plastic on plastic high pitch squeal as the plastic flexed. When the car is not running of course press on the cover and see if it flexes and acts like it's loose around the bolt holes. If it's a problem take off the cover and try epoxy to seal the cracks or get new ones or junkyard seconds. I think a rubber gasket may have been original but I don't think they last too long.
I am about to go out there in 5min to look at it. Could a couple bad belts be causing this noise? I know they could use replacing, looked a little worn last time I looked. Im hoping its nothing too serious as pay day is still 6 days away.
No, but if you've got A/C you might want to pull the A/C belt off and see if it still makes the noise, the A/C compressor clutch might be bad.

The bearing in the A/C compressor clutch is bad. When you turn on the A/C it engages the clutch and the pulley is no longer freewheeling on the bearing. Replace the A/C compressor clutch, or the whole compressor depending what's more cost effective.
yes you can cut it. The only possibility of drive-ability would be you won't have the ability to turn on the A/C to dehumidify the windshield.

Just cut the old belt off, looked horrible. Checked the rest of the belts and they all look about the same. Looks like I have a project for next weekend

Btw it was the ac compressor clutch. I tried to spin it freely after I cut the belt and that was not going to happen. now time to figure out what is keeping my bumper from lining up properly. I cant tell yet but I think the rad support might be bent. Any other ideas?

Rad support might be bent from an accident or
was bent and replaced with another but the installation was incorrect.
Look for unusual tack welds.
Or the car might have been jacked up under the support and left for a while.
Could cause it to sag.
