How to tell if my old transmission will work?????
I have an 89 SI that the transmission has gone out in. I also have an old transmission from one of my older CRXs (I think its out of one of the HFs but i cant remember which). Is there a way to tell if it will work before i tear it down?
Manual or auto? Wiggle the output shaft if it has too much play its toast but if it doesn't move it still could be bad surefire way to tell is a teardown
I know for sure the current transmission thats in the car is done, i dont know how to tell for sure if i can put the one from my old HF in. IE is the input shaft or axles different and if so how can i tell which it is?
EDIT: Its a manual

I dont know what year its out of, i read somewhere earlier about rings on the input shaft to tell what year its out of. But are you saying as long as its 89-91 itll work? and is that with my existing SI clutch even thought the trans is from a HF?
yes, any 89-91 will work as long as your 89 had the 89 transmission and not 88 - your axles, clutch, everything works

since this thread is about transmission and I hope the op don't mind I'm asking questions here . Ok let's just say that in the worse case his two transmissions are toasted . Any other transmission that fit his 89 Si without any modification beside 89-91 model? I mean plug and play .
