Targa top.. stuck?
I recently purchased a '93 Honda Del Sol Si (ill post pics and stuff soon, this is my first post here). Anyway, the roof leaks on the passanger side so i wanted to get the top off and try to see where its leaking from. I haven't taken the top off yet and im pretty sure i know how, however, when i push the buttons next to the handles for the top, the handles dont want to move, its like they're just stuck or something. i pulled pretty hard too but i dont want to break them. is there a step im missing or something?
Maybe work some pure silicone spray into the latching area of the top. There are some 3 inch long rods that slide from the targa top into holes in the pillars that may be frozen. Only use pure silicone grease or spray when working with rubber seals. Petroleum products (WD-40, liquid wrench, oil, PB Blaster etc.) will rot the rubber. The seals cost ~$1500 or more. You can treat the seals with some pure silicone grease (dielectric grease) to clean/condition/eliminate the inevitable super annoying squeaks from the top when driving over bumps. It may help with some of the leaking too but your year (93) had a known problem with leaking seals. The seals were redesigned in '95 to be "a little" better (mine still treats me to a drop or two in a downpour when speeding down the freeway). Just keep a towel or something handy when it rains...
As a previous poster said, there is a 2 step process to open the latches. The little recessed "button" must be slid forward, then the latch can be swung out/open. If it still resists try lifting up down (wiggle) the side of the top to see if that frees it up. It shouldn't require a lot of muscle.
Aside from that it may be broken and might require some disassembly.
