help: engine idles better when batt. disconnected??
2002 s2000 79xxx miles got car as is and im trying to figure out the problem and would love any input from u guys. car fires up pretty good but after it gets warmer it idles a bit rougher. whn driving and i let the rpms come down at a stop it will shut off. BUT then, when starting it back up, it has a hard time cranking as if the battery is dead. sometimes not even able to start back up because lack of battery power and need to jump start. so we did the "disconnect the negative while the car is running" to see if the alternator is generating a charge, get this, the rough idle smoothens out and idles a whole lot better. The battery cables (neg and pos.) plastics are a bit melted and the connectors are very hot to touch. Therez no check engine light and no burning smell. just got the car so i have yet to do a tune up( tomorrow morning for sure) but im just curious about the electrical issue. any input would be helpful. thanx in advance
oh and battery is brand new.

Check the battery cables and connectors and sometimes sizing caps are put on the terminals to fit the connector and the battery ground cable connection point.
If you disconnect the battery while the engine is running and it still runs then that rules out the alternator. Really weird that it gets better when you unplug the battery.. Possible ground issue? Check your grounds and make sure connections to the terminals are clean and tight is the best advice I can give. Also get the battery tested at Autozone or wherever. Takes like 2 minutes.
thanx for the input guys but at this point, i gave up and put her in the shop.. with a busy work schedule and a lack of garage, i didnt have the time or place to work on it.
