How do the weep holes on a water pump work?
My g/f's 98 LX four door with 100k miles started losing water in the past couple of months and preliminary inspection shows it coming out of the water pump since it's only dripping from the lower front cover, but I haven't had them off to verify yet. The water pump was changed with the timing belt almost exactly 10k miles ago. It's not a Honda pump, IIRC it's a Bosch.
Could it really be bad already? Is it possible that something else is the problem like I messed up the seal?
Thanks in advance.

Absolutely. It may have been defective right from the get-go. It happens. Those aftermarket waterpumps are junk though. I have yet to see an OEM Honda pump within the timing belt replacement interval.
Possible, but it's more likely it's just a bad pump. If there's coolant on the timing belt I'd replace that again too.

Just replace the pump with an OEM one. I replaced the OEM one on my 93 at 90k with a GmBH and 60k later the pump began weeping. Decided after I was tired of refilling the radiator every 3 or 4 days and getting a water stain on my driveway I would just do the belt and pump again. Did it with OEM and no problems.
I got a a1 coradone one from oreilly there just rebuilt oem waterpumps I didn't have a problem with mine up till it got stolen. I think it was only like 30 buck's I believe...but I used to work there so I'm sure I got a discount on it. But even without a discount I don't think there much at all. If they do go out you get another one for free cause they have a lifetime warranty.
