setting the timing, a quick but important question
Hi everybody. I got an engine i want to do a leakdown test on (f20b), the timing belt was removed, i want to set everything back together but i am wondering if i risk making piston to valve contact while turning the crank/cams by hand to set them in their right position. Should i loosen all the valve lash adjusters to make sure all valves are closed? any suggestions? thanks!
yes but i want to know how i can safely turn the crank over (by hand) without getting piston to valve contact, before reinstalling timing belt

Pull the cam shafts off. Easiest way to be sure. Then when you re install the cams try and put them back on the way they are supposed to go so as to not press the valves into the piston. You can bend the valves with the cam too.

- Remove spark plug for easy rotation
- Rotate crank shaft for 90 degrees of TDC (left or right it does not matter) even is 180 degrees from TDC just rotate for 90 left or right
-Set camshaft at adjust position
-Set crankshaft at adjust position
-Install timing belt
