Bypass VTEC solenoid.
I'm having a issue on a 2001 honda accord coupe with a h22 in it. the vtec solenoid keeps it from going over 65 mph. throws the vtec solenoid code. It needs a oil change but this the second time its done this. Its a grandmas car and i was wondering can you bypass it?
troubleshooting the cause for the code would probably be easier and give a better result than trying to figure out how to bypass it. i'm relatively sure that there's not an easy or reasonable way to bypass the VTEC system to prevent the code.
try cleaning the valve, replacing the screen, trying a diff. solenoid, trying a different pressure switch. all the components should be pretty cheap at the nearest junk yard so you won't be spending a load of cash trying each part.

(not trying to be an *** just really wondering if this is true it could explain some issues I have seen)
If the oil is too thin it won't be able to build up enough pressure to push VTEC pins into the rockers. This would keep VTEC from engaging, and if it did at all it would be dodgy. I agree. About five minutes ago I replaced all of the O-rings on my VTEC plunger, solenoid, and oil pressure sensor. You could try that as a start.

Sounds like your loosing oil pressure at higher RPM.
What weight oil are you running?
Have you cleaned out the VTEC solenoid screen?
Do you have access to a shop or the tools to run an oil pressure test on your engine?
Could be the oil, clogged screen or the oil pump..... Or it could be an electrical issue, however if it is only coming on at higher speeds/rpms I would lean more toward an oil pressure issue.

I always do an oil change on this car for this lady. its 5w-20 valvoline maxlife. and a fram oil filter every oil change at 5000 miles. She always has this problem around oil changes. Her o2 sensor is bad. But that wouldnt cause vtec problems.
Odds are you just need to clean the inner filter that's inside the vtec solenoid. You can't bypass the solenoid at all. I suppose if you cleared the code and didn't go above 5000 it probably won't throw the code.
However, if it's not dirty, I'm guessing your vtec wiring is intermittently open sometimes. Probably at the ecu connector. You can try opening the back of the connector and pushing it in correctly then closing the back tab.
