Icon2 d16z6 timing tensioner problems

alright guys, this is the second time ive been in the engine in the past year, the first time my cold air intake sucked water into the intake and been my rod,now my thermostat took a **** so the car overheated and blew the head gasket,im not a car wiz,but i know alot about these single cams, anyway, last time we had it appart he set the head back on with intake attached, and loosened the tension spring, after the head was bolted down,my question is what loosens this spring?can i juss pull some slack on the spring and pull the belt on the cam gear?or is it a must do to take the timing covers off, NOTE-- the head is already on torqued down and ready, all except for the timing belt,i figures that part would be easy this go arund, but thats not the case, this is the only thang holdin me back from driving my baby again, any help at all would be great, just to point me in the direction of how i should do this,i would just ask my dad but hes in jail so that cancels that.thanks for reading and helpin in advance

You must remove bottom timing cover but first : engine splash guard and left driver side wheels, then flywheel pulley and you can remove cover.
