98 Civic CX/D16Y5 swap - TCM/TCU and wire harness questions
Hi HT,
Well,I just bought 98 Honda Hatchback CX with D16Y5 motor (HX Model). Im having problems with the ECU and TCM/TCU. I have read that the HX model has the ECU and TCM/TCU separate while the CX model has both in one ECU. Im undecided either to install HX Model (D16Y5) harness or just swap back the CX motor. Im looking for a fast fix. Please let me know what you think is better? or if you think is something else. Hope to hear from you guys.
Thanks,

Pull the tcm out and take the cover off and check to see if any of the resistors are burned or any capacitors are leaking. I had the same issue in my accord. The main relay went bad and caused the tcm to burn a capacitor and resistor
of course you're gonna have a transmission issue. hx tcm is separate from the ecu, but also an hx auto is cvt. all other d series are non-cvt with the tcm integrated in the ecu. swap the correct motor back in.
thanks for the info. what you think about rewiring the CX harness to HX. would it more of a headache and more expensive than swapping back the CX motor?
You can't, well not without getting into the issues the OP is having.
