BIG FAT Metal Bracing under rear (EK) seat...
Does anyone know the pieces that im talking about. Its 3 peices that bolt to the floor under the back seat. I took them out one time when i was working on stereo stuff and together these have to be 30-40lbs easy. What adverse effects would this have one handling since it looks like some kind of brace.

I didn't feel much of a difference when I pulled mine out. That is a crash beam by the way. I don't know if its only a 99+ thing or not. I know my friends 98 Civic HX didn't have one. I've only seen them on 99+ Civics.
My car doesn't even have that. 96 CX

Oh well, I have a roll bar anyway

My 96 hatch didn't come with one. It's only there for side impact protection, nothing else.
Get a good suspension setup and a roll bar and you'll be stiff as chit.

so this item is not necessary? or its somthing that a rear strut tower and lower sway bar will fix?
in the end it wont be coming out... i just wanted to strike up some conversation on somthing that has been perplexing me since i took my interior out and then put it back in due to lack of functionality with my car in general.

take it out. only good for t-bones
its three THICK metal pieces that go on the edge in front of the gas tank, under the back seat. I have to take my carpet out in the next couple of days so ill try to get some pictures when i do that.
HERE IT IS!... (kinda)

you can see the brace(s) under the carpet line just in front of the gas tank cover.
and the question still stands...
What is the point of this bracing? Did honda realize that they had built a weak frame and add some more bracing in later years of the civic? Is this bracing in the CTR even with the seam welding? Better yet... Is this bracing in the integra?
P.S. Look for better pictures pretty soon. This is an old picture of my car I found on a friends site.

I've had the rear interior out of my '96 CX a bunch of times, including the carpet...mine does not have that bracing.
