Icon6 D16Z6 All Motor

Ok first off I'm New to Honda's only having owned, This Del-Sol and a 86' CRX in the past.

After staying up all night going over different forums all over the internet, I've come to the conclusion I want to build a All Motor D16Z6. (Laugh Now If You Must) You may have seen a previous post on here from me about possible turbo kit but that's out now, everyone Turbo's I want to be different.

Now I don't have a Hp/Torque Goal. So don't think I'm trying to make a D16 full on race car or a F-Body Killer, I just want a daily driver All motor D16 that will turn a few heads when i step on the gas.

I would post pictures but its a little ricey right now, b/c the previous owner was a 17 yr old kid who has seen Fast and Furious to many times.

Anyway from what I know as of right now the only mods to the car is a bunch of ebay junk. Megan 4-1 headers (which looks like a 5 yr welded it on) some kind of cat back exhaust fart can included and new suspension all the way around. The car has 170,*** miles on it. O and its a Auto but im looking to get a 5 speed for it.

I plan on De-ricing it first and for most then finding a 5 speed to stick in it.

What i need to know from you Guys and Gals is where do I start my adventure into the world of All Motor build.

What should I do top to bottom on this motor, I mean I want a list from anyone who cares to read this thread. Ie what would you do start to finish?

1) ....
2) ....
3) ....

Thank You in advance for anyone who helps me out.

It all depends on many things. Do you want to run premium only? what is your budget?

1) 60mm tb bolt-on from 96+ b18/b20 or others (30$ + gasket), make sure to port match the intake manifold 2mm bigger in diameter at the opening.
2)Depending on the budget and the rest of the mods you could cut open and port the IM (about 500$) or get an edelbrock intake manifold (around 300$), too many factors decides if one is better than the other.
3) Do you want to port the head? (around 500-1000$) Depends on what cams you want to run and the rest of the mods.
4) cam. Do you want to run an agressive cam with aftermarket valvetrain ($600+) or a mild cam with stock valve train (i.e. comp cam/zex 59300 - around 300$)
5) if you want to go with a more agressive cam, then you will want to bump up the compression. You can do this by using p29/pm7 pistons which would put you at around 12.1:1 comp which is pretty much the safe limit with premium fuel and a good tune.

It depends on what you are willing to pay for the results, just remember that building a motor is a recipe and parts have to work with each other, thats where you'll see the best results. Plan everything out and make a budget too, you can't run out of money for the important things at the end i.e. tune.

I ran a z6 with comp cam 59300, 0.060" milled head, no tune just an ajustable fuel pressure regulator dialed in and I was very happy with this low-budget motor, it was very peppy and I would run consistant 9.5s on the 1/8th mile in a ef 4-door on street tires, which is faster than many B-series at our track.

What's so different about an all motor D-series? Nothing. Nothing new being done to these cars. No Christopher Columbus and no new world to discover. And no power goal? So how do you know what you're building towards. For being up all night researching you seem to not have much of a plan other than to have people tell you what to do. Just another way of spending money fast to go slow.

Find a build thread that appeals to you and copy what they did. Easy. It's all been done. No need to reinvent the wheel.

vtec8200 thnx for the info...

grublemarc man you are everywhere lol...

yes i know its been done but honestly ive had a turbo car and don't get me wrong i loved it, but by far the funnest car i've ever owned was my stock 90hp 86 crx b4 i messed up and dropped a b18c1 into it. After that didnt like it so i traded it away. At this point i honestly dont know what i want i just know i don't want a swap or a turbo. I had a 94 talon with a 4g63t fun car but not what it was cracked up to be.

As far as not having a power goal, why set a goal when a N/A d16z6 power ceiling is so low unless you want to spend 10k, and trust me if i had that to spend i wouldn't be on forums. And no im not looking for people to tell me what to do i just need to know where to begin...

This post i have read several times over but its all gibberish to me. Seems to be kinda what im going for just with a different motor...

What part is gibberish? Perhaps we can clear things up.

If overall power is not what you're after and this is more of a project/exploration then I can get behind that because too many people talk this "All Motor" junk because they think it's more reliable and think they can make the equivalent power of a boosted build. Nonsense.

I say you have to have a goal. No matter what. Like I stated in another guy's thread; not having a goal is like going on a road trip without a destination.

Honestly all of it, its to much to handle at once lol.

No im not trying to go all motor b/c i think its more reliable and i know i want get the same power as a boosted engine.

Basically what im looking to do is a progressive project build where i add things here and there to see if i get any power/tq gains. Think of it as a learning experience basically im trying to see what i can teach myself on my own with the help of proper research, diagrams, and forum help.

So i don't want to do anything crazy atm like trying to mill or bore anything. I learn more by doing i've always been that way.

If any of that made sense.

Just trying to see what i should do to start of a nice little N/A project car not for the vroom vroom but for the knowledge.

A fun motor doesn't have to be all that powerful and the z6 is perfect for that. If it was me I would start with a complete tune up and valve adjustment, you could even do a baseline pull on the dyno to see where you are at. Then add bolt-ons that will work together one at a time. A lot of road-racing classes allow for stock engine with minor modifications and people take time to chose parts that work well, search up for that and you will get a good idea of basic and good setups.

So your saying to search for road racing builds to get an idea of what i want to do? Sounds pretty much like what im looking to do, well for now anyway. Im just looking to do things here and there like i said before just to get to know honda's before i go crazy with it.

Would you happen to know how i would go about searching that info? Like google maybe?
