Default search FAQ's, engine swap result is K20 stuff, need R&R steps

I searched FAQ's and got lots of diy stuff for swaps to K20's or otherwise. also head's (under engine links) but no simple watch out for/ take it out the top/ remove the accessories first type stuff. I have the tools and mechanical ability, I just want to be the most efficient. I have a 2001 Civic 5 spd man VTEC engine.

do I leave the one left tranny mount bolted on and unbolt the front and rear so as to give the engine enough room to flex up, floor jack underneath.

do I have to take it out the bottom? hope not.

I understand that many people have wondered about this very thing. I searched FAQ's (advanced search) for engine swap/engine replace/engine replacement and did not find any procedures for a stock swap. I appear to be dull and risk the chastisement of the moderators for asking the same repeated question covered many times. please be willing to wait to lock this thread until at least one person post's a link to the procedures.

thank you in advance.

Personally, I think the easiest way to remove the drivetrain is through the bottom. You stand a lot less risk of scraping up the engine bay or snagging something if you just drop it down on a stout furniture dolly and jack the car up with your engine hoist (using the crash bar as a lifting point).

Are you planning to go K-series, or are you just replacing the D-series with another D-series?

since I am commonly working on Ford trucks I don't fully understand the crash bar. is that the steel structure of the bumper?

Yes, when you remove the bumper cover, you'll see a big beam that runs between the chassis rails. That'd be your crash bar.

okay, so since you're just going with a stock D series motor swap, then scratch the hybrid racing idea. i thought you were swapping the motor for a K20 motor. though, i am not sure what you are trying to do, entirely. are you swapping the VTEC heads or the entire motor? or the entire motor/transmission?

also, out of curiosity and to better understand your questions, what is the reason for the swap?

the kid that owned the car before me put one of those cold air intakes that places the filter down by the lower corner of the radiator. He ran over a puddle of water and sucked water up into the engine, hydro locking the engine. the engine is frozen solid. thus the need for a new(used) engine. I just want to use the car for a daily driver. it is a nice car and it was cheap.

the following post was something that REALLY helped me. this should be listed in the engine swap index. I did a search and found this one on page 3 of threads. most of the threads found using "engine swap" have to do with the K20 stuff. which is fine but not for the guy who is simply replacing the stock engine. stock engine swap. D17 swap.

thanks much for all the input
