Default K20 vs K24

I currently have the k20a2 that comes stock inside my 03 RSX and im needed a motor to build and i cant decide which i want... I really want an easy swap! so im thinking about keeping the k20 and build it up with good manly parts and BOOST her. but im really not seeing huge differences between the two to make me think otherwise. please chime in for me

Look them up individually and do the comparison yourself

ive done some looking up myself and im thinking maybe just keep the k20a2 or find a k20a/k20z1 and not worrying about converting any wiring to k24 but i dont know that much about kseries... SUBARU oriented

there is no wiring necessary for a k24. only swapping sensors.

It's still just a search bro.

If you want power quickly K24. The better motor of the two is the K20A whatever. The type s motor has more upsides IMHO.

Do you want to rev high or do you want low end torque? K20 = revvy monster k24 = low end torque monster. Which monster do you want?

if you're going to build her I'd just keep the K20A2. I built one for a customer and we made over 600whp turbo charged.

If anything maybe just find a cheap K24 block and build that with a k20a2 head. Once you start building and changing internals a K is a K lol

I just went to my JDM guy and i can get a used k20a for $1200 but he can only get me k24 spec JDM engine with tranny and lsd for around $5500. I like my odds with the JDM k20a.

whats the pros and cons of having a k24 block with a k20a head? I know with my old subaru i put a ej257 Rallispec block with ej207 heads and they have a spike in compression. Those numbers seem promising and I do plan on turbocharging her.

Not gonna gain magical jesus powers...

but you can pick up a bare K24 block for SUPER cheap.. like $300 and then build it up and reuse your K20 head which is free. Then you'll have a good flowing head and a built block ready for boost. WINNING

Pro and Cons

K20 verus k24

k20a2

comes with prb oil pump
prb cylinder head (best casting for porting)
prb water pump and housing
prb oil cooler
cast aluminum oil pan
revs high
power band is higher then k24
piston speeds are lower at higher rpms
rod to stroke ratio 1.62:1

k24a2

comes with 1mm bigger bore
longer rods
longer stroke
revs lower than k20
power band is lower
piston speeds are higher at high rpms
rod to stroke ratio 1.54:1

You can upgrade k24's with k20 parts
for example: prb oil pump on k24,prb water pump, oil cooler, etc.
prb= k20a2 stamping code.
rbc= k20z3
rbb= k24a2
ppa= k24a1

Might be one of the most helpful things posted here. Asking people questions will get you information but not knowledge. Look around, do some research, learn things for yourself, and you'll know when someone is providing misleading information or just generally wrong.

I have deleted a bunch of posts here. OP, you were given some great answers in here, and please as one of those posts said, don't bite the hand that feeds. Occasionally questions get asked 100X in here, and people do get frustrated answering the same ones over and over.

Thats great but they dont need to reply to them... THEY CAN MOVE ON!!! nowhere in the forum rules does it say everyone must reply to posts! As stated above i asked a certain user to not reply but i guess they dont get the hint. I may have just started in THIS forum but im not new to them.

PMed you by the way!!!
