Default Hi All............. I'm new here..... and I have a problem

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and to Honda's ...... I recently bought a 2000 model Accord V6 Coupe and I love it. It's in very good condition for a 12 year old with a just a few niggly problems I'm sorting out.

However. There is one which is stumping my limited mechanical prowess. The heater doesn't seem to produce much in the way of output. The fan is working and responds to variable speed input from the control ****. I believe the mode control motor is working ok because the air (what little there is) can be directed to the vents or into the footwells. The air coming out appears to be quite warm. But there just isn't much in the way of airflow either with the fan turned right up or on auto ?????

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks All.......... and hopefully as time goes on I can contribute a little on here as well.

Peter

Has the cabin filter been changed or cleaned in recent years. It might be clogged with debris that made it in or got sucked in through the screen below the windshield and is now possibly restricting airflow. Some of it might have gotten into the blower motor, reducing it's spin rate. Or your blower motor might not be up to snuff. I would start with the cabin filter. DIY if you're handy. Check for posts here, or Youtube for video.

Hi. Thanks for that. I just looked on youtube and it appears to be relatively simple even if I do have to dismantle half the car to get to it. I think that'll be a good starting point. I'll buy the filters and fit them. Then I'll report back.

Good luck. I have reduced upper defroster air flow on my 93 Accord, but unfortunately mine doesn't have a cabin filter. I keep procrastinating on taking the system apart to find the debris (pine needles, leaf fragments, etc.) that has undoubtedly accumulated in there somewhere. The screen on the drivers side of my windshield catches a lot of stuff, but it has holes large enough to allow some stuff to get through.

Thanks for your help on that............ I changed the pollen filter today........... The old one was black and well and truly blocked up. The air flow is much better now......... But not really as hot as I think it ought to be. Just quite warm. So I think there is something else not quite right. I think maybe the flow control valve on the coolandt system might be faulty ???? Or is the something else I should be looking at here ?????

If your temperature gauge is acting normally and you feel certain that the thermostat is working properly, then the Heater Core is another thing to suspect. Replacement is super advanced DIY due to having to take a lot of stuff apart to get to it, but flushing it is sort of DIY. Ideally, have a service station do it, because it can be messy and locating and disconnecting the right hoses can be tricky. Even in this video below, a veteran mechanic has a lot of "fun" trying to rig up a system to flush it and nearly got an eye full of propylene glycol for his trouble.

This focuses on the heater core, but even a normal "flush and fill," making sure to turn the thermostat dial / slider to the hot position while refilling, might help run out some gunk that might be in the core. A good flush & fill is more than just emptying and refilling, but involves flushing the system, too. Hopefully, your heater core is still good.

I just replaced the cabin filters for the nth time on my 2000 Accord V6 sedan yesterday.

It's always a pain in the butt for me. Everything goes fine except for removing the glove box. I discovered this time that the switch box for the glove box light seems to be preventing a smooth removal of the glove box once are the relevant screws and lower panel and bars have been removed.

Other than that problem, the rest is pretty straight forward. I should write myself a note on the glove box light switch issue, since I can't remember that after 3 years!

In the end changing the pollen filter was relatively painless (about 20 mins) .... and the glovebox came out with a bit of a tug.
