A/C problem......need help ASAP
Hi guys.....im new to the forum
I have a problem with the a/c. I run the a/c once a month to keep things lubed. Just recently my a/c would cut off and blow warm air out after a couple minutes or so, then turn back on and blow cold again. The a/c cycles between blowing cold and warm air out. Is there something i can check or change?
thank u

i used to have the same problem. there is a very high chance that you have a problem within the temp/fan control unit (officially called heater control unit). most likely, the A/C switch and/or the connections are not working correctly.
1. you can either replace this unit (brand new for $350 from hondaautomotiveparts.com)
2. take it to an auto electrician and get it fixed (should be no more than $200)
3. find a used unit ($???).
i went to option #2 and i regret not getting a new unit for $150 more.

Yah, I've heard that if the lines are low that this is an indicator of it. Try checking that out first.

thanks for the info, I was suspecting if that was the problem. I had the same problem and ended up connecting the relay wires by the radiator. AC would be on all the time, it worked for about 2 days before the compressor blew..... now I got the compressor replaced but still have the same problem. I would go for a new heater control unit, probably from majestic Honda online.
if you are low on freon, your A/C performance deteriorates but you won't see such intermittent on/off situation. if the cold air cuts off very abruptly, the A/C function is stopping altogether, which indicates a strong possiblity for an electrical issue.
however, if your A/C performance is deteriorating (not as cold, esp when weather outside is very hot), it's an indication of low freon, bad compressor, etc.

When you say it cuts off - does the AC light turn off also? I'm suspecting you have an old solder joint in the control unit circuit board. Try thumping the dash above the unit: if the AC comes back on, that's exactly what the problem is.
I don't know where Sephro ever went to - but he's the man for this problem. Somewhere back in time he did the writeup for resoldering the control unit. Hmmm.
*edit* from Sephro - pull the control unit out, and resolder the back of the board where the wiring harness plugs are located.
Or do what I still do and thump that **** when it acts up
