Accelerator pedal not working, engine light up
Hi everyone,
I have a 2003 Honda Civic, 1.4L petrol, EP3 body.
Last Tuesday my engine warning light came up, but the car was driving as normal. I checked the manual and it said something about one of the sensors not working and that it would probably affect the emissions of the car. Well as it was driving ok and I needed the car so I left it alone until I could take a look at it.
Fast forward to today and I go to move the car off the drive way and the accelerator doesn't work? I press the pedal to the bottom and absolutely nothing happens. Well, my step-dad came to look at it later on and the car started (very reluctantly) and the pedal was working as normal but of course the engine light is still on so there's still a problem.
We've tried getting the error code by using a small wire to bridge a connection between two sockets underneath the steering wheel (not sure exactly how it's done but hope that makes sense). Well it didn't work for some reason.
So my specific questions are; what could be wrong with the car? How do we find the error code? Was the trouble starting the car a related problem or not?
Thank you in advance!

Well if the O2 sensor is bad it could definitely put the car in limp mode and throw off all the A/F so if you try to accelerate the car wouldn't go. But I've never seen it as severe as you described by being able to floor the pedal and have no results.
