There is a 93 del sol si at the junkyard, with an automatic transmission, and d16z6 motor with 119 k on it. Any way I have a chance to sell these to someone, but I have never removed a transmission or motor before and was wondering how hard it is and if there is any diy around here, Also if someone knows the weight of each one

 

you remove axles and unbolt the transmission... it's too simple for me to explain. maybe someone can dumb it down

 

drop axles, exhaust, hoses, disconnect wiring at shock towers, remove or cut shift cable for a/t, remove mounts. very very easy

 

sorry for being so pathetically dumb. Now how do I drop the axel and what tools will I need

 

I'm sure its easy if you have done it before a few times but not all of us are super car savvy, thats why people come to HT to get help :/

 

Its a del sol at the junk yard just start unbolting **** untill it comes out.


Google is also your best friend.

 

This can be a dangerous or deadly job at the junkyard without a hard level surface to support the car/jacks/hoist etc. Use common sense and caution. You need to disconnect the lower ball joints and have a sturdy prybar or large screwdriver(s) to pry the axles from the transmission. You don't want the car to fall while you're under it disconnecting the many items that will need to be disconnected.
Get a service manual and refer to it for engine/trans removal procedures.
I will not remove an engine without a shop crane/hoist. Maybe once you have everything loose and just the side mounts holding it the junkyard staff will hoist it out for you with some heavy equipment. Ask in advance.

 

You may want the ECU as well.

it is hard to not be a smartass when this topic has detailed write ups accessible with the search function or google. put in 5 minutes of time and get your answer.

 

A guy from my old high school died at the junk yard when the engine landed on his face. If you've never swapped a motor/tranny at home, it's too dangerous to do it at the junk yard where there is not enough safety equipment for an amateur. But if you are so set on pulling the motor, bring someone experienced with you!

 

At least put a few stacked old rims/tires under the car in case it falls.

 

This is good advice... be as safe as possible.

 

Before you go and waste your time pulling the motor and trans, take a look at the overall condition of the car. Look for body damage or a lot of rust/structural damage. If the car overall looks fine cosmetically, then i wouldnt bother taking the trans or motor unless you plan on taking them apart to inspect them. You gotta think, theres a reason its in the junkyard. If the body is ok, then most likely the motor or trans has a problem.

Usually i wouldnt be concerned, but since you say youre selling it to someone, its definitely something to look at. Dont need to sell it and have it come back to bite you in the *** because there was a problem unknown to you...
