97 civic hx/d16y7 swap - Intake failed CA visual inspection. Is egr needed?
alright so I got a hx and swapped to d16y7 it still had the y5 intake and it has a egr.i went to the cali state ref to get it inspected and I failed visual because I have wrong intake .I brought a y7 and its on its way but the y7 uses no egr.it passed emissions part with out egr .just failed on intake visual .does California need to read egr to pass smog?he said that the y7 ecu doesn't read egrs .do I need one when I go to pass smog.its impossible to put a egr on a y7
The intake manifold needs to match the engine, so does the exhaust, and the ECU and any other emissions components.
To answer your question, no it doesn't need the EGR valve. It wont mount to a D16Y7 IM anyway, and the ECU doesn't have the circuitry for it.
