Icon3 Surging Idle after skunk2 intake manifold install

I recently installed my skunk2 manifold, I replaced the oem gasket with a hondata heat shield gasket. We made sure all was connected and screwed tightly. The finishing result was surging idle between 1000-1500 rpm. We made sure it wasn't the IACV going bad. We've tried about almost everything, real head scratcher. Best bet is to deinstall it and start over. Before I do that, any ideas people, I know I'm knew really would like the help though. I have a slight feeling its something simple that I may have overlooked.

Any help or guidance to the right direction would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Can you see if there is a IAT port on the runner closest to the driver side of the car?

When I installed a S2 IM on my 99, it had a provision for the OBD1 IAT sensor which I forgot to block off (since 96-00 have the sensor in the intake arm) and caused a surge. Otherwise, start checking all the seals and gaskets for possible leaks. You can always get a smoke test done too I think

Can you kill the idling engine by covering/blocking the top of the throttle body?

So I may have an idea what's causing this problem, the hondata heat shield is extremely thick which gives the bolts only a few threads before it can no longer screw. You guys think this is where the leak could be?

Possibly, but I have installed Hondata (and similar) gaskets on my D16, H22, and B20 with stock bolts/nuts/studs. D16 had the stock manifold on it, a skunk2, and JRSC. H22 had the stock manifold and a skunk2. B20 with the stock IM. Never had any problems related to it.

If you torqued the nuts/bolts in the correct order there should be an issue. Are you using the IAT sensor that mounts on the side of the manifold, or one that in the intake arm?

Year/make/model/engine? Spray some carb cleaner around the manifold in short bursts to see if you have a leak. Also did you bleed the cooling system after you were done?

Alright guys sorry about the wait I apologize. So I took it to my brothers neigbor(import mechanic) and he found the problem, it was the FICV, he made me a custom diameter gasket for the mainfold and retuned it. So were all good now. Just need to find some longer rods so I can set the hondata gasket apropritetly, any links? B16A3 by the way.

You mean longer studs/bolts? They should be available all over the place. I see many people selling them on eBay
