I picked up a MY00 Honda Civic LX sedan today. When I close the driver's door, the key will not turn and will not lock the driver's door. The only way for me to lock the door is to pull the handle and push the door locking tab down and then shut the door. Is this normal?

 

I'm little confused, but some Honda's don't lock from the inside you have to lock it from the outside with a key, its a prevention method by honda so you don't lock your keys.

If your closing the door from the outside and it doesn't lock then one of two things is the problem

1. the key has deformed and no longer matches the lock try using a spare key to prove if that's the cause.

2. the door lock cylinder no longer works and need to be replaced. To prove this lock the passenger door with the key if it locks there's your problem

 

I was just messing around with the different keys and jiggling it in the keyhole. Now it will lock. So weird.

 

Just lock it from the inside, I can't lock with my keys either, only unlock. @king... as far as i know, you can lock any honda from the inside, you just need to hold the handle open when you push the lock down. A lot of people miss that...

 

I was able to get it to lock with the key on the outside for some reason. The passenger side also works.

I think the LX/EX models come with keyless remotes, but my seller didn't have one. I'll have to check the driver side footwell and see if there's a keyless remote sensor box. If there is, I'll just order a remote on Ebay.

 

You should be able to, it's just hard for me to do it. I knew Ex's come with keyless, a remote would be the best and coolest option though!
