Default 91 Ef B18a Trans grinds in third and fourth

Hey guys,

I have a 1991 Civic Hatchback that had a B18a Swapped into it by the previous owner. Im having a little problem that is causing no issues at the moment but I don't want any near future issues. When going into second and third gear even with the clutch is fully pressed in it seems to grind a bit into gear. It does not pop out of gear or have any issues when driving but I am afraid it could be a issue the trans fluid is full and it does go into gear with no issue. The previous owner also installed a skunk 2 shift lever but seemed to put it in backwards because the bend is pointing towards the total opposite direction it should be I wonder if that could have any part in this maybe the positioning is causing the shift linkage to be not lined up. Someones told me that it was a normal honda trans thing but I cant believe that. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

If it's a dual bend shifter and it's more or less straight up in 2nd and quite far ahead in 1st that's normal.

That grinding is an internal transmission issue. 3rd/4th sleeve is probably trashed. 3rd/4th hub may also be worn, as well as the engagement teeth or 3rd/4th gears themselves. The synchros may also be worn past the service limit although honestly they don't wear nearly as much as most people seem to think they do.

To make a long story short the transmission need to come out and be rebuilt or replaced.

It's not normal. It happens a lot, but it isn't normal.
