Default Ideas on a build

Hey guys i was thinking about doing a swap on my 95 civic ex coupe
its got the d16 in it now.
i also got another civic hatch i was gifted and that civic had a b18b1 swapped into it.
was thinking about taking the b18b1 out and replace all the top end gaskets and dropping in the coupe i like that coupe better and its in better condition

any thoughts and ideas for the swap i either want a engine i can turbo or and strong vtec engine

The B1 make a nice engine to turbo, or you could get something else like a B18C that would go in quite easily as well. It all depends on money and the amount of mechanical skill you posess.

search, it has been done a million times. What does "is it worth it" even mean? You never stated a budget or power goals.

first you should start looking into other peoples builds to get an understanding what goes into turning that motor turbo. if you just wanna have fun for a couple months slap a turbo on tht baby and enjoy.

and by placing the b18c1 or c5 head built properly you can get it close to 250whp still being able to use it as a dd

ps. j32a would be sick in a coupe

You have tons of research to do. I suggest looking into what other members have done here, use google.

Honest question.... Why do you think you needs to have that much power?
What do you want to do with it that requires those kinds of numbers?

There are other things that really should be done in order to make an LS/VTEC work well and make decent power. As far as making 250 whp as mentioned above, you would have to have at least $2500 in to the engine, and that's if you did your own work. Also LS/VTECs making that kind of power are most likely not going to be very driveable.

i was thinking about that too and thats why i was leaning more towards
b18b1 and just turbo and have fun with that
try to make that faster

Just swap and turbo the coupe on like 10-12pds and enjoy it while you do more research and get deeper into the Honda game. Then decide from there and if you go ls/vtec turbo'd your 3/4 the way there.

Hope you're not taking this advice seriously. Car modification isn't a game.

Defiantly sounds like you need to do some serious research before you just start throwing money at a motor / turbo. If you don't know what you're doing it's going to be a waste of money due to the fact that you will more than likely blow the setup to pieces if you don't understand how it all works. Google can be your best friend in this situation. I'm not trying to push you away from doing what you want to do , I just want you to be properly educated on how it works before you go and waste money on something that will inevitably fail without proper knowledge.

So... you're joking? You're not building a Honda?

Found the problem everyone!! OP is not actually doing anything. OP is clearly trolling us as indicated in this post, here. Note the "lol" at the end.

Reliably, no..

Those numbers for that price youd have to turbo it. And for 2500, youd have to buy a cheap turbo kit, cheap tuning software, cheap everything pretty much. No money left aside to build the motor at all. So even if the engine holds up, something in the turbo kit will probably fail at that budget. Dont even waste your time and money. LS is great for boost. Parts arent too expensive to build it. Set of forged pistons and rods with a nice turbo setup can have no problem at your HP goals, but 2500 wont get you there. Not even close in my opinion, but thats always up to debate. If you wanna boost it, your best option is to get it swapped and buy parts as you can afford them. Doesnt need to all be done at once.

Fully built head on stock block? Yea it can be done, but whats the point? For a turbo motor, youd build the block before you build the head. Those parts are weaker than those in the cylinder head. And for all motor, building the head will only get you so far. Correct me if im wrong, but youd need to start raising compression to get the full potential out of building the cylinder head. I suppose you could run a thinner head gasket and or mill material off the head to raise the compression, but you can only go so far, even less if you run bigger cams.

You could always swap the LS and do an LS/vtec swap. Or just find a GSR swap..

In my opinion the LS/vtec swap will be cheaper to buy and put together than a GSR swap. It's hard to get ahold of a decent GSR for a good price compared to getting a full LS swap for like 500 with a transmission and all then all you need is the LSV kit which is 150ish and then you just have to find a good B series VTEC head which can range from 250-800 depending on which head you decide to get or can afford. You just have to make sure that if you or whoever puts the LSV together that it's done correctly or once again you've just wasted money as it will more than likely have some type of issue causing it to fail. Just my .02 tho

P.S. I've always been a fan of the LSV or B20V's due to the fact they have always run harder than any GSR i have ever seen , just as long as you do the swap correctly and have a good block / head.

Basically boils down to whichever setup works for you and which one you can get for the right price.
