Default Clutch Recommendation

Hey All,

I'm putting a b16 motor in my 93 hatch in the very near future. Before doing this I'm going to replace Timing belt, water pump, clutch, etc.

I'm looking for clutch recommendations, I won't be using an forced induction for awhile (plans for this possibly in the future). So my setup will be stock with bolt on's for now.

I'm looking for something that is moderately priced (probably between 200-300) but will perform well and be reliable for aggressive street driving on a stock motor.

Looking forward to hearing some recommendations!

This is the route I am going once I get my rebuild completed. When I took it apart there was a OEM exedy in their already and it felt like a decent clutch.

Exedy stage 1 clutch was definitely something I was looking at. I seemed to find a decent amount of bad reviews about it which was off putting. Perhaps I'll keep digging for more information regarding Exedy, especially since it seems to be a general consensus so far

I was also looking at the Competition Stage 1.5 "gravity" clutch as well which seems similarly priced. Anyone have any experience with Competition?

I fucked up my Exedy OEM spec clutch on a stock motor; so this time I went to an ACT Stage 1. No complaints so far

The fibers from inside the disk were coming out. Idk what causes that to happen, but I've never seen it before. This was after about a year of DD and light drag/autox duty

I had great results with the exedy stage 1. Works great if you are banging on your car.

Lol, I admire your honesty,
hopefully in the future you will adjust your driving technique or install procedure. to not **** up any more clutch's

OP, OEM exedy,
If you want extra clamping force which you will not need for a 1.6L without a hairdryer, Exedy stg1, ACT extreme plate w/full face organic street disk.

Im just waiting for some court jester to recommend a ceramic unsprung 4, Lol.

Thanks for all the recommendations.

I ordered the CC 1.5 previously mentioned. I was nervous to order the Exedy with some of the reviews I had read (probably mostly driver error however).

Thanks again guys!

Lmao, no sense in lying. I used to take short cuts when I first started modding my car, since then I've made sure to only buy parts that will work with my driving style. I'd rather pay more for parts than change the way I drive, within reason of course, lol

I wanted to bang somebody on my car after the transmission went ka-boom.

I heard somewhere in rumormill that the TOB in the stage 1 was tougher than the OEM. I have nothing to support this, just something I read while doing research.

I am in a similar boat, as I need to replace my rear main seal and transmission bushings.

I remember how I loved my 1998 Integra Clutch feel, and I was curious...can you place an OEM Integra/B-series Clutch into a D-Series trans?

I have a 2000 Civic DX.

Other than that, I was looking to get the Exedy Stage 1...will this have that stiffer feel that I am looking for? I am not partial to the Honda Feather light commuter clutch that they put in these Civics.

Exedy stage 1 will be a bit stiffer then OEM. It's a great choice.
