Which cylinder head replacement 01 CRV
I am acquiring a 01 CRV that has a burnt valve. What replacement cylinder head would be a direct replacement. I thought the 96-01 2.0 liter engines were all the same, but am reading about b20b and b20z engines?
90-01 b18a, b18b, b20b and b20z heads will all bolt on. 90-01 b16a, b16b, b18c heads will all bolt on with a vtec conversion kit and give you some more horses and sounds to make.
well if you don't have alot of experience with this stuff a 99-01 crv head will work the easiest for you. If you went 97-98 head from a crv it would be a little different wiring and so on, but could be done with a little know how.
no. the b20z has higher compression pistons which makes up for most of the 20 hp. part of it is the (i think) intake cam. if you want, just swap the cams from the old head to the new one and that'll make up for it.

LDForget, I really appreciate the reply. Just for clarification, is the cylinder head off a b20b and b20z engine the exact same minus both camshafts?
Raz, maybe your best bet is to have your existing head reworked if you have the time and there is no terminal damage. For the amount of time and money you are about to invest whatever head you use you will want to have it reworked or you could be buying someone elses problem. I know it goes w/o saying but dont forget a new water pump, and timing belt etc.

I am only paying $1200 for an 01 CRV with 211k miles, that is in excellent condition otherwise. Sometimes, I wonder if this is going to be worth it.
The timing belt/water pump was replaced at 177K. I'll take a look at this, but may replace the tensioner.
Your thoughts?
If my existing head is repairable, then I'll go that route. But, I am preparing for the probability that the harder valve has damaged the softer aluminum valve seat, beyond repair. I don't have experience with the CRV burnt valve issue, so I am not sure if this is the case.

Yes. And it's only one cam that's different. I think it's the Intake cam but I can't remember. Go to the majestic Honda website and you can compare all of the part numbers if you want to cross reference it.

Also, what head gasket do you recommend? OEM, cometic, etc.
Sounds like you're getting a good deal and will be worth it. Ditto what bol said, if you don't want it and you are close enough to Park City Utah, I'll come and get it. As far as head gasket I find the oem is usually the way to go because it is much more "forgiving" in cases of high milage engines.
Oem or cometic are both good. Whichever one you get a better deal with. Do the valve seals while you are there. Sometimes they change the part number but its the same part.
Noob here... first post with a question. As I understand it a B20 with the long intake manifold won't fit in an EG, something about the hood won't close? Is this the only issue? Can't I just put a different intake manifold on? or for that matter will any B series head work still? Pardon my virginity.
yeah the b20b engine has a SUPER tall intake manifold that would stick 8" out of the hood of an eg. super cool if you want to be badass and have the filter outside of the hood. ultimate cold air, right? b20z engines have a shorter intake manifold, higher compression, and a bit wilder cam to give it the power of 20 more horses. nneeehhhhhhh. you can use any intake manifold on the b20 engines, except gsr. they have a different mounting pattern.
I burnt a valve on my 98 awd stick and the valve damn near 1/4 way gone the head was still good but decided to replace the head anyways but i picked up a P8R head its the higher flow non vtec head from craigslist for 50 bucks and the head gasket and oil at autozone for 100 and the next day it was runnin better then it did before the valve went but to the story only took 150 bucks to get my back up and runnin
