Default Purchasing a CIVIC

Hows its going. Heres my story. Had a 01 Prelude but just the other day it got totaled in a parking lot when a old man lost control of his car. purchased it for 3500. Luckily the guy had full coverage and progressive is giving me 5700 for the car plus another 1700 i have saved up.

When i bought my prelude i made the mistake of not looking up and researching the year and model before buying it. The transmission ended up being crap because it was a known problem but it still chugged along for 2 years. great car.

I want to avoid that problem all over. Maybe you guys can give me a little advice. Im planning on buy a 2010 - 2012 civic lx or ex preferably. dont want it to be over 10,000. what should i look for? any known motor or transmission faults? any advice is great advice. really looking for a daily driver. i love the reliability of civics and need a reliable car for work and for going to school.

Personally I haven't heard of any transmission problems, the only problems I've heard about over the years has been cosmetic (cheaper quality paint being used) as well as a clunking or popping sound coming from the front and rear of the car when driving over bumps or downgrades when exiting parking lots.

If you're gonna be buying something with that few miles why not just buy new? It may cost a few thousand more but the interest rate through Honda should more than make up for the difference on the loan. Then you get the full warrant period too.

The only mechanical problem I have heard of was on some of the Si's popping out of second or third gear (correct me if I'm wrong on that), but there was a TSB that covered it.

You will not find 2010+ for 10gs. If you do you will probably not want it. Most dealers still have 12s on the lot and will sell them(lx) in the mid 16s with 0 miles.

For list of problems go to 8th gen civic forum, and recommends is depends up to you, what you prefer?
Sedan have more room and for me better look, avoid black color and fuji blue pearl if is stock condition, have problem with paint chipping, so call crow feat , if you don't prefer sport car and feeling EX is good option, but some MY have problem with engine block, crack... just go to 8th civic forum and do research .

The car has some scuffs on the right side door but the dealer has agreed to get them fixed at their expense.

Thanks man. exactly what i was going for a clean reliable ride that i can add stuff onto as i go. Those Hub caps defiantly have to go lol. Any recommendation on rims that wont blow a hole in my pocket? I was thinking i buy the stock EX alloy rims because i really like the clean look.

Try at craigslist , I believe that you can found even Si wheels for reasonable price .

Any body know what these things are? They seem to have been sticked onto the metal of the car. Feel like taking them off but i dontnwant to mess up the paint. Also thinking of getting some splash guards.
