Hello all...
First off, this is my first post (I think) in the audio/security/video forum... I recently decided to switch my PIONEER AVH-P2300BT dvd player from my Honda Fit to my Suburban Z71...
After I got everything wired and working, my wife complained that the DVD player wouldn't play while driving. I explained to her the E-brake wire and why they made it so you couldn't watch DVD's, but she wanted it hooked up anyway.
Fast forward five mins later and had the dash apart again, I took the cap off the green E-brake wire, and held it against a ground source, and it worked. I was able to play the DVD player without engaging the E-brake. However, every time I shut the motor off and started it back, I had to remove the E-brake wire from the ground and reapply it to get it to work. After realizing this, the screen went blank on me. No lights, nothing.
I unplugged the battery again, re-checked all the wiring, checked all the resistors and the fuse but nothing is blown. The screen works, but the touch-screen does not react to touch at all. The lights on the side of the unit are no longer lit up and it does not play audio, at all. NOTHING. What did I do??? Any ideas, or thoughts on a fix? Anyone ever experienced this at all?

Have you confirmed that you have 12V+ constant, [yellow] and 12V switched, [red] and a ground, [black]
What year is the Suburban?
I think you need to explane to your wife that see needs to keep her eyes on the road not on a video screen.

Some radios can't just be grounded, they need to have a toggle switch installed. Run your e-brake wire to 1 side of the switch and the other side of the switch goes to ground. Should solve your problem
I know for the AVIC models there is a pinout to swap postions with 2 wires that by passes the ebrake feature. I had to do this for my AVIC700 for the GPS feature. It wouldn't let you access the destinations without hte ebrake engaged.
This is what I did and where I got the info from www.avic411.com

its weird, the avic-d3 in my SI didn't need the toggle switch, but the cheaper, AVH-P6400? in my integra had to have a toggle switch that I have to switch every time I get it the car. I don't know if you messed something up, because it sounds like you might have. how old is the unit?
