Default 93 Del Sol Si Mystery Motor

We just picked up a 93 Del Sol from a tow auction deal, super cheap but what a mess. Broken body kit parts, a paint job I hate, and badly done DIY reupholstered interior. First on my list is figuring out my drivetrain and making sure my new project is safely and reliably driveable.

I have done so much googling, that I can't keep all the info I find straight. It's a DOHC VTEC, it's JUST A DOHC, but not a VTEC. Then, the pics online don't always look like mine. I am starting to think I don't have a stock motor, or maybe at least the head has been swapped, because most pics show a smaller cover with the oil cap on the drivers side, and you can see where the spark plug wires go in, but my oil cap is on the passenger side and the wires go down the middle of the cover with another cover over them.

Is there a reliable source of information out there? I have stamps that I can see, but I can't get reliable info of what those mean either. I can't make my DIY list or shop parts until I figure out what I have.

Any advice would be appreciated...

One of the stamps says pr3-2

This makes no sense. It's probably an ODB1 B16.

I know it doesn't make sense, that's why I gave up and decided to just ask.

I can't attach pics because of my newbie status, but here's a link:

Also one of the stamps says pr3-2?

Your engine block has an identification stamp where the upper radiator hose attaches to the block. What does the stamp say?

This link shows you how to identify the year of your PR3 head.

whatever motor it is i believe it would be a swap. as a recall, the 93's were not offered in a vtec trim with the b16. only s and si which would have had a d16z6. so this motor is a swap, just a heads up.

At the very least it's a B-series. And it has VTEC because you can clearly see the VTEC solenoid if you know where to look (which would be right next to the distributor).

Wow the body on that thing is a serious eyesore, though. Stars along the doors? So lame that it hurts. So much money into something that thing to make it look so lame. I hope she is in good hands, now.

Do a vin look up and find out what motor the car was supposed to have. If its a D16Z6 then someone did a swap.

I think she is, anyway. Bringing the body back to stock and painting a single color-probably something non-factory for the model like charcoal gray. I considered back to Milano Red, but I have never been a red car person.

The stars are even worse in person, the workmanship to get the body parts on there is a total hack job, and I don't even know what to say about the rattle-can job on the wheels with the overspray on the tires-I said I wanted a project, so I got what I wanted!

It's definitely a swap since the del Sol didn't have a VTEC trim in 1993. Also, the del Sol had BOTH B16A2 and A3, depending on the year / OBD#.
