new to the board, '90 civic horn blows when turn wheel, did search, please help!
Hi. My girlfriend's 1990 civic horn starting blowing at random times yesterday, mostly when turning the steering wheel, and then by itself when we were in her house haha. I disconnected the negative batt cable, but I suspect there is obviously a wiring/connection/grounding issue. I pulled the "H" center steering wheel button,,revealing what from searching think is the 19mm nut holding the wheel on. Do I have to remove the entire wheel to find the connection? Do the 4 phillips head screws on the back have anything to do with it? Please help if you have this knowledge! Told her I would try and figure it out. Thanks!!
Yes you'll have to remove the wheel, but dont worry it's one of the easiest wheels to remove.
First off you'll want the wheels pointing straight ahead and the steering wheel centered, to ensure it goes back where it was upon re-assembly.
You've already removed the center cap with the H on it so just remove the 19mm nut, then pull the wheel off.
The back side has a few screws (2 I believe) remove them so that the back half of the wheel comes off. this piece has a wire that runs to the front half (the center/button you push) be carefull not to yank it off.
Its likely this single wire has a short somewhere, and is honking as it rubbs on nearby metal.
get back to us and let us know what you find. By the way this shouldn't take too long to take apart so dont be overwhelmed

Sorry kind of a late update, but i did indeed find the cause of the horn blowing... I pulled the wheel and could hear something rattling around, it was a quarter that had fallen in there somehow haha. Shook the quarter out, and kept it as my payment
. Bolted wheel back on (was careful to mark orientation) and problem solved. Thanks again Grog for the help. Whole thing took 5 min.

NIce, that reminds me I just repaired a CD player with a few pennys stuck in it (kids). I shook them out and kept them as lucky coins, the radio needed additional repairs though.
