Hi guys, i know some of you are gonna be sassy and tell me to use the darn search function to answer my question because its probably already been answered "tons" of times, but i DID use the search, didnt find anything, got lazy and quit.

So heres my dilemma, I have a 00' civic sir(canadian), and im planning on buying a catback exhaust system. this will be my first time buying an exhaust system and im kind of new on the installation part. my buddy has been telling me that i need to buy an aftermarket catalytic converter or else the flanges wont fit together. I also want to get aftermarket headers. The piping on the exhaust system is 60mm, so about 2.37".

My questions are:
Will the exhaust system fit with the stock cat converter?

Are the flanges all the same size even aftermarket?

Will aftermarket headers fit with the stock cat?

Im getting confused, so if you want to clear more things up for me, feel free. i kinda need the advice and stuff.

 

If im not mistaken your car has the cat incorporated with the exhaust manifold?
IDK how thats going to work for you.

I believe that model civic has a standard header with a downpipe folowed by the cat. The base models(cx/dx) has the cat incorperated into the manafold.

To answer the question OP you should be able to use the stock cat without any trouble. You may want to pick up new bolts if the exhaust does not already come with the hardware.

 

I thought the cat in the manifold was only for y7's? not really sure though. Somebody school me.

 

I have seen the SI's (b16) with the cat in the manifold...
Was an expensive item a year or so ago... at least im california.
I too want some schooling on the subject.

No you didn't. No B16 variant came with the cat in the manifold, in any country.

 

I think it was only the Y7's that had the cat in the header, never seen it on the other models. You should be fine OP. Look under the car first to see if the hangers are still good and maybe buy exhaust gaskets to replace the old ones. The new exhaust should come with gaskets though.

 

Okay so help me clear things up here, the size of the exhaust pipe(ex: 2", 2.5") does not matter, and the flanges, aftermarket or stock, should fit directly?

 

you can reuse your cat, most systems are designed for it.
