Default 93 Civic EX auto - what can I do for cheap to make it quick?

ok guys so i have a 1993 ex coupe i think 200o miles on body trans and motor. and a very big newb about civics but catching up! its an automatic and i have a bad knee and cant move it very far, i want to know what i can do to this car for cheap money to make it quick but not fast o make it be a sleeper, a car my friends wont see coming. they all have fast cars and have a **** ton of money to use, i want to at least show i can ride with them. and gain revenue to do mods to it. i have some questions.

1. can i motor swap it without a tranny swap? its a 1.6 i wanna put a b18 or b16a in it

2. can automatic civics be quick

3. should i brush the car up make it look new?

1) If you use a B series engine you'll need a B series tranny.
2) Sure, an auto can be just about as quick as a manual.
3) Why not? Just because it looks nice and clean doesn't mean it can't be a sleeper like you want.
4) Cheap and fast don't really go too well together...

Autotragics have a nasty tendency to blow up if you put any kind of real power through them. If you absolutely must stay automagic, don't expect to be able to go fast. At all.

Sorry but the auto and performance in civics just doesn't go together. Sorry about the bad knee but you're stuck with a slow ride unless you plan on swapping to a 5 speed and either turbo or engine swap.

You can either go 5 speed or buy a lot of automatics.

If your friends have fast cars, your civic will not be able to "ride with them" without using some kind of forced induction. And at those power levels you won't be able to stay automatic.

If you must stay auto, your best bet is to either enjoy the gas mileage you get from your civic, or buy a more powerful car. Even if you swap in a DOHC, you still won't be able to keep up with a V8 or even most V6s.

dont worry about being fast, i had a 95 civic dx coupe automatic. it was the horizon grey and had it lowered 2.5 inches with the integra ls mesh wheels, painted valve cover, cheap auto zone intake, and a system which was actually the best thing about the car (hit 132.8 with one kicker CVR 12 in a sealed box). it was clean as hell, and it got incredable gas mileage. i had to have something that my pregnant wife could drive in case she had to go somewhere. there was another 95 ex coupe that has a crap load of work done to it, and honestly...i got more compliments then he did.

so like i said, you dont have to be fast. just cruise, so what if your friends have fast cars...at least you know that you are not going to be the one getting pulled over when they are acting stupid. plus if you have a fast car, nobody can see how clean it is...i just cruise!

Give up on making it go fast and just focus on appearance.

You can put a 5 speed as part of a motor swap otherwise nothing.

There is nothing. Shouldn't have bought an automatic if you wanted to be Fast & Furious.

Nothing is worth putting on unless your planning on doing an auto to manual swap and going to b series.

You can get a short ram intake for cheap. That would make the car become louder the further down you pushed the pedal.

Define "quick". Also vtec headers? You may need to do some more reading.

If you want to have a quick car but you're limited to auto's, Honda might not be the best choice for you (unless you want a fit. They're sporty and the auto's have paddle shifters). Me personally, if I was to find a sporty auto, I'd get a fit, 4th gen camaro, or legacy/impreza. That's just me though

I really don't see why you would care to upgrade an automatic if you aren't going to gain any power at all! Especially in a Honda Civic. If I were you I would sell the car and get a standard transmission.

How about instead of quick, you make it nimble and fun to toss about by upgrading the suspension?
A suspension upgrade is something I see many people recommend anyway before you start adding power, so you might as well.
Trust me, even if you're not straight-line fast, you'll have plenty of fun in the twisties ^^
