how do i tell what tranny i have?
ok i have a H22a swap in my EG and I'm trying to figure out what transmission i have so i can rebuild it, but the sticker with the bar code and number on it has been removed. is there any other way to tell what tranny i have, or is that stupid sticker the only way?
Not practical if he's driving around on it without issue.
Op, what size tires?
Then break out the gps and write down rpm vs mph for different gears.
3k and 5k plots should do it.
Then you can crunch numbers and you'll know within reason.
Final drive can be extrapolated from gears calc'd based on rpm drop from a 5k shift in each gear.

My speedo is only off by like 2-5 mph cuz my tires are 45 instead of 50. But i still dont get how im suppose to tell what tranny i have by my speed. Can you please explain? Like i said im kinda dumb when it comes to transmissions i have never worked with them.

Some transmissions have shorter gears and some have longer gears. By knowing which rpm's your pushing at certain speeds we can narrow down your transmission by gears. Look for the stamp above the passenger axle and give us that number also
yeah my speed at 3k is 15 in 1st 30 in 2nd and like 43 in 3rd. if you guys need more i can get it but there was to much traffic today to get a 5k reading. and its like -15 right now so i don't really want to be out there looking for a stamp unless i absolutely have to.i can get it this weekend when it warms up a bit. is the stamp on the bottom side of the tranny? because i couldn't find anything on the top side.
True...but the OP said he is going to rebuild it
Plainly stated in the first post that he wants to figure our what he has so he can rebuild...if it's going to be cracked open for a rebuild...why base the replacement parts/gears/Final drive off of a close guesstimate of MPH to RPM.
