Kids these days....
Plain and simply.
If you want a 300+ HP D-series, the engine will need to be built properly (ie. Pistons, rods, headstuds.. etc)
If you want a 300-350 HP B-series, you can do that with a stock (untouched) motor. Although ATLEAST headstuds and a motor refreshing are a good idea. Anything past 350 and piston ring-lands start cracking and breaking apart.

H22s can make more power by default because they have more displacement. The h series aftermarket is a little limited because of it only being in a few us platforms, and due to the frm sleeves, you have to have the block sleeved to use forged internals, so there's a significant cost involved.
Plus they weigh more, so it will throw handling off and you'll need stiffer front springs

H22 Doesent have to be sleeved, mahle makes a drop in piston. A H22 in realty isnt a whole lot heavier then Bswap.. The H22 head is awsome and there is always the H2B options.
The D series in stock for will handle about 220 to 250 whp. Doing to vitara and custom length rods is an awsome option for 350 bucks your good till like 400-600whp. A custom cam regrind is also cheap.
And if a d-serious could make 300hp, what in the world makes you think a b-series wouldnt?

Yup, they have the thinnest sleeves of any b/d/h motor and are very prone to cracking. That extra 200cc isn't worth the headache over a b18a/b
I would go ls/vtec honestly, I'm building my 2nd and 3rd as we speak... you get the best of both worlds, the torque from the longest stroke crank and the efficiency of a VTEC motor.

Because someone told me single cams are The strongest when built
