Default Fuel economy: is this normal?

Hey all,
I have a 2001 Civic DX 5-speed with 163000 km and I love it, but I have some concerns about my gas mileage. I've owned the car since October, and about 90% of my driving is in the city. I only get about 350 km (or about 220 miles) to the tank, even with liberal use of fifth gear and short-shifting. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?

Doesn't sound right to me, I have a 04' Ex and regularly get 32+ mpg in town driving. When was the last time some general maintenance was done?

Had it fully inspected when I bought it and changed the oil+filter. P.O. provided receipts to show that timing belt, serpentine belt, and water pump had all been changed recently, as well as some front-end suspension bits.

I had a similar issue, was getting 25mpg with no check engine light. The culprit turned out to be the primary O2 sensor.

Try the following:
-Change spark plugs.
-Change/clean air filter.
-Insure tire pressure is correct.
-Clogged fuel injector, get fuel injector/system cleaner.
-Do not drive like an idiot in a hurry.
-Primary O2 sensor is worn out and needs to be changed.

I have an 03 EX Coupe with 67k miles and am getting between 24 and 26 here in Queens and Long Island. I think that this is normal for this type of driving during the winter when the level of ethanol goes up. I have gotten around 34 highway driving.

Should I suspect that my o2 sensor or plugs need changing? Also how do you test the o2 sensor?

that's pretty low MPG. I have an 02 EX and i get 33 MPG and my car has 233k on it. You should definitely do a tune up on your car.

Plugs have been replaced at 67,833. Old plugs were burning normally, tips were worn. I will keep you all up-to-date on my mileage.

Is there a PCV on this engine? If so, change it as well.

You can remove it when you're changing the oil & filter and clean it with some carb spray cleaner.
