So last week the alternator died on me and I ran my battery absolutely dead. Replaced the alternator and now my car idles high and and bogs down horribly on start up and initial acceleration on 1st and 2nd gear unless i give a it a decent amount of gas. Engine code came back with a map sensor error and I was told by a master mechanic that the computer had been reset when the battery was drained and now it has to relearn how the car runs. Car ran ok prior to this other then burning oil. So is this map sensor causing this issue with the computer trying to relearn how it operates

 

List your year make model but if its 96-00 he's right. Not sure about the map code. I'd clear it and see if it returns and make sure all the map connector wiring is good. Also double check your battery wires to make sure they have good connection and are tight.

 

I wouldnt peplace my altanator its not good to introduce water especially caustic water to an electrical component.

 

Clear the code and check the plug for your map sensor, it's on the top of your intake manifold.
