Default Fail Emissions

Inspection failed, im thinking of setting my car on fire and collecting the insurance.

1995 Civic EX 1.6 VTEC D16Z6

Here are the readings on first test.

High Speed Emission Results (RPM 2040)
Standard Current Reading
HC(ppm) (147) (866)
CO(%) (.82) (2.05)
CO2(%) 15.2
O2(%) 20.3
NOX (ppm) (1072) (345)
DILUTION(%) (>6.0) (17.4 )

Low Speed Emission Results (RPM 1862)
Standard Current Reading
HC(ppm) (152) (979)
CO(%) (.82) (13.20)
CO2(%) 28.30
O2(%) 20.39
NOX (ppm) (1186) (433)
DILUTION(%) (>6.0 ) (41.50)

Car has no check engine light, it idles at 600-700 rpms. The engine sounds perfect and drives nice and no smoke out back. Heres a list of what was done to it after reading these fourms.


Spark Plugs
Spark Plug Cables
Distributor Cap and Rotor
Fuel Injectors
MAP sensor
Coolant Sensor

Valve Cover Bolt Thread Repair

Coolant Flush and Bleed

Catalytic Converter
Vacum Hose Inspetction
Throttle Assembly Gaskets
TPS Replacement and Adjustment

After all this was done here are the results of test 2.

Standard Current Reading

CO2(%) 8.80
O2(%) 6.14
NOX (ppm) (1072) (772)
DILUTION(%) (>6.0)

Low Speed Emission Results (RPM 1862)
Standard Current Reading
HC(ppm) (152) (549)
CO(%) (.85) (5.72)
CO2(%) 7.90
O2(%) 5.87
NOX (ppm) (1186) ( 80)
DILUTION(%) >6.0

The inspector after put the sniffer into the gas tank and the hc shot to 5500 hc. He told me the car is running to rich.

Ive spent around $600 on parts and alot of time please tell me what im over looking.

Please post the actual emissions sheets.

However, right off the bat, I notice very high O2 levels, which indicate an exhaust leak.

I research the same thing. I would like to find the cause of the problem at this point. Never less I plan on trying this as a last resort.

This^ is causing the engine to run rich.

I see you replaced your exhaust manifold gasket. Check to make sure it's sealed properly, then check the rest of the gaskets between the manifold and the cat. I had a failed doughnut gasket that caused a similar issue for me.
