Default intermittent cutting out, more likly coil or ignitor?

hey guys, having a ignition problem with my 91 dx hatch and 99% sure its in the distributor.

its intermittent and only happends 2-3 times in a 1 hour running period...but it always seems to happen at the worst times (like going threw and intersection) and seems to be getting gradually worse.

it happends when the engine is under load and either cuts out completely or feels/sounds like its on 2 cylinders.

could a coil be causeing this or would a coil either work or not work? is it possible for coils to work intermittently?

how about the ignitor?

is it more likely to be the ignitor or the coil in your guys expereince?

thanks for any advice.

CEL codes?

Resistance test the coil and have AutoZone test the igniter unit.
