Default 2.0I wont start.

First post here from Scotland guys , and greetings to you all.

Prelude 2.0i auto. 99 model.

Never had a blip with this in 5 years. 140K miles and regular service by me.
Parked it on drive to do window reg and door actuators. Changed tranny fluid, then all back together. In trying to start her it was as though I had low compression. Turning fast and not firing. Checked the cambelt and pulleys...
all turning ok. Took spark plugs out and they were wet with petrol. Earthed the first ht lead through screwdriver to block........good spark.

Before I check compression and then the possibility of TB jumping a tooth I would like to eliminate the chance that it may be flooding badly. You can smell petrol. If I floored the pedal before I turn on ign would his help to stop further fuel entry to manifold/cylinders? Is it better to pull a fuse and stop the FP then crank to clear it out. Where is fuse for pump please?

Any ideas or order of investigation appreciated.

Pulled FP fuse. Cranked for 15 second periods. Removed spark plugs. Dried them out, then back in. Fitted fuse again ,then on cranking, the engine made an effort to fire. It eventually caught and fired into life.

Unless it repeats from cold again tomorrow, I can only assume that with ign being turned on and off for testing stuff, the ecu has dumped fuel in cylinders.

Need to get that cam belt done though.
