Couple questions left unanswered about reupholstering
I have been doing some research on reupholstering the top of my door panels in my Del Slo, the part where door handle it. I know you have to drill out the plastic tabs to get it off, no one that I have seen on the first 2 pages of the google search show how to reattach it that I have seen? I have also seen 2 methods used to get the fabric secured. The first being with spray adhesive and adhesion promoter. The second method is simply just a staple gun. Which method will yield a cleaner longer lasting effect? Also anyone reupholstered the center console lid?
This is what I did to my '94 Del Sol:

I used small screws and washer to attach the piece onto the door panel. When you remove the "glue", just snip off the surrounding so you can remove it. Try not to damage or enlarge the hole.

Remove which "glue" I have not actually torn into the door panels yet. I am in the process of finishing up my turbo build, but figured if I can boost and rebuild an engine I can probably handle this. What did you use to actually secure the fabric to the panel? And at the corners. I plan to do a complete DIY as I have not seen one that answers all the questions.
Sorry for the lack of information but I cant find the epoxy i used on my door panels of my EG online.
If you go to your local hardware store there is an epoxy(2 parts)in one tube, that will bond to your plastic and dries super fast.
It's a white liquid and a yellow one that you hand mix, but its in a syringe deal that you squeeze out.
I used this to secure the panel instead of self tapping screws.
I just didnt like how if you ground down the stubs too far the screws didnt have anything to grab into.
Not to mention if they do back out... you have nothing for it to screw back in.
At least with this stuff I was able to build up the stubs again.
It some super strong stuff.

So you just got a 2 part epoxy and put this over where the plastic tabs used to be that had to be drilled out? It is easy to come by, they have like 10 second epoxy all the way to like 5-10 minute epoxy haha.
To my surprise it worked like the stuff was meant to be there in the first place.
Its not a clear epoxy its two parts White and Yellow, and it dries white.
Great stuff.
I think its this stuff.

Color doesn't matter as you won't be able to see it. Then to secure the fabric to the panel did you use a staple gun or did you use spray adhesive?

I used some self-tapping metal screws plus a washer. Screw size was #12 or #10. They worked great and they are removable again, which I liked.
This was on a 94 Civic hatchback.

Deff going to use spray adhesive and it looks like self tapping screws and washers also for extra security. Now what do people use to smooth out the cloth? I have seen diy's on how to do this none saying what was used..
Yes once its tacked up and you lay down the fabric, just rub it in with your finger and the palm of your hand for about 20 mins.
