Default Obd2a to obd1 swap, few issues. need some help

Ok, I am going to start from the top and explain the whole process. Bought a 98 dx hatchback that had a d15b7 with d16y7 head on it. already had ckf bypass trick done to it. the engine was going bad, (bad rings) so i pulled the motor and put in a d16z6 vtec motor. i used the y7 intake manifold, fuel rail, injectors, and distributor guts. i have a p28 ecu, not yet installed (waiting on conversion harness), but i finished the motor swap and started the car when i had everything hooked up. Here is my issue, the car runs excellent. I can start the car and let it run for around 20 minutes with the idle set around 800-850 and it runs without flaw and then it just dies without warning. After some investigating, I have found that the main relay clicks right before the car dies. It does it every time it dies.

I am going to run my p28 ecu with a obd2a to obd1 conversion harness and wire my vtec up, but I am still wanting to know if my current ecu (P2e), is causing the main relay to act up, or is it just a faulty main relay? would really love an answer to this question, rather than everyone just saying "Just hook up your p28 ecu and vtec and call it done.", because I want to know for future reference so I don't run across this issue again.

Check your thermostat housing ground, clean the ground and mounting location with some sand paper. Does the car start right back up after dying? Is the check engine light on while running?

cel is on, but its always on. car starts right back up every time but when its warm, it dies out unless you hold the rpms over 2000

ok, just noticed that the main relay clicks when the car gets warm, then the car dies immediately after. I am going to change the relay and see what happens. thermo. ground is not the issue, however i wish it was lol.

ok, so main relay has nothing to do with the car stalling. I am going to try a different distributor on it when i can find one, and see what that does.
