Default New guy with a clutch question

Hey guys, I'm new to the site and to the Honda world entirely. I just picked up a 2001 CR-V EX with the uncommon 5-speed transmission. I got it for $5700 with 119,000 miles.

I had a question about the clutch though. I know all cars are different but the clutch seemed like it grabs very quickly and has more freeplay than I'm used to. Are they just like that or do I need to adjust something?

I'm told they're all kinda like that. At the very least the three I drove before buying mine sure felt that way...

Nice buy!

Mine acted that way until I replaced my clutch master cylinder. It was leaking inside the car. One day I only had about 2" of clutch and though it didn't feel right so I peeled back the carpet and found fluid all over. Not fun. Now that it's been replaced, adjusted, and properly bled everything is more "normal" to a typical Honda feel with the clutch. Mine had 170K on it at that point. Not saying that anything's wrong with yours, but it wouldn't hurt to bleed it, top it off, and check for leaks.

Thanks for the help guys. I can't decide whether to lift it a little or lower it. If I lower it I don't want to go any lower than say a newer Forester.

Took a couple more pics of the V last night. We got a dusting of snow here in NEPA which made for some cool pics.

Nice CR-V, I have a 98' EX 4WD 5 speed, and it grabs but does feel very soft. But then again all the other honda's that i've owned have always had aftermarket clutches.

Whats up dude nice ride! Check out my CRV in my garage. When I got mine the clutch was burned out so I put in an ACT street clutch. Both my Honda clutches grab at the top for sure. Normal. As long as it holds strong!

Just a little update. I decided to take a look at what i64X mentioned about the master leaking internally.....it was. I replaced my master cylinder and the slave cylinder just to be safe, bled all the air out and now I've got a new concern. My clutch seems to have gone from grabbing early-mid way through the stroke to grabbing almost at the top of the stroke. Any ideas on what this might be or is it just the way it is?

So it grabs right where you would almost have your foot off of it?

I worked as a lot bitch back in college at the local Honda dealership and all of the Accord V6's 03-07 had a clutch like that new. It really sucked if it was wet out and your shoe was slippery on the petal.
