Default new member approaching 97 SH clutch job

hello all, i've owned my prelude almost 6 years and have brought the car's second clutch to an end. the PO "had it replaced"...anyway i know the SH is gonna be a pain, i just replaced the axles when the clutch became the weakest link. just searching out there for any opinions or advice on anything else i should replace while i have it all apart. i want to go with the gripforce oe clutch/flywheel kit on ebay($135). figured if i treated it right, it should be fine on a stock setup.

You may want to do your rear main seal because its a pain if you're not already down there. I am doing my clutch soon (exedy stage 1, Comp Clutch 11lb flywheel), and along with it I am putting in new lower ball joints, and drive axles because those already have to come apart. I have a 4th gen so I can't really say what exactly a SH needs, besides Honda brand trans oil. Good luck!

Honestly, The SH is a royal pain in the ***. To do it right, and make sure all of the sensors are reset etc, I would have a Honda shop or dealer do it.

I have done an SH clutch/ tranny twice, and I vowed never again.

Make sure the rear main is done, and the flywheel turned, clutch done right etc.

yeah i know it's not the easiest clutch job, but i've seen others say they did the SH and hadn't even attempted a clutch job before. i've studied over the helms manual and it looks like something i could tackle with a buddy who just did the clutch in his rx-8. i understand that's a rwd and a totally different job, but between the two of us and google we'll figure it out.

Which sensors need to be reset?

Stay organized as far as the bolts and put them in bags labeled, i replaced my clutch a few months back for the first time, i was a little sloppy with it, one bolt missing from my intermediate shaft lol, but mine is a base, cant help much with ur SH

definately the rear main seal and throw- out bearing(kit SHOULD include TOB), i also destroyed my balljoints during the process (like i said, my 1st clutch job)

The ring gear/flywheel holder works great to hold flywheel in place while loosening and tightening, i used a screwdriver and held it while i tightened it, but i wouldnt do it again

and PS... clean the hell out of the tranny when you have it out, make it so you see yourself

You need the sockets with more teeth for the bolts on the pressure plate and flywheel, i think it was a 10mm socket, but you need the 10tooth, or 12tooth 10mm socket to grab without stripping the bolts

Thanks for all the input. What do you recommend I use to clean the tranny? PB Blaster or something of the sort? My friend has all kinds of metrics, so there's no problem there. So is there just a universal flywheel holder that the parts store should have? As for the sensors, the Helms covers that top to bottom, and I've wired up more than a few things at work.

BTW I got the fluids drained and the battery and starter out. I messed up a nut on the header/downpipe so I'm down until I borrow a welder to stick an old socket to it. Any other recommendations on that?

Also, do I need to worry about replacing my axles again? They're fairly new, cheap OE replacement.

Bump for help getting the axle from the ATTS. I have pried on it and tapped from above, and used a cv axle tool on a slide hammer. Nothing seems to pop it loose.
