A little OT...I just got a ticket, yay!
I just got a ticket...CVC 27151 "Modified Exhaust"
There was an open lane on the freeway, so I signaled and changed lanes and then floored it and topped out 2nd gear (~55 mph). Got up to the speed limit and moved into the slow lane, and then CHP bike pulls me over.
"I pulled you over for exceeding the speed limit in a construction zone and for modified exhaust"
"Sir, I signaled to make a lane change and then accelerated to avoid cutting off other drivers but I never once exceeded the speed limit."
"Okay, license, registration, and insurance please."
Approximately 3 mins. later:
"Okay I'm giving you a ticket for the modified exhaust."
"Sir, I have a printout here from the CHP website that states it is not illegal to modify the exhaust system, even if it is louder than the factory system, as long as the noise is not harsh or obstrusive."
"Well when I heard you accelerate is was very loud."
"Yes, but that noise you heard came entirely from the motor. This exhaust system is extremely quiet and does not make any harsh or raspy noises."
"Well it seemed very loud to me, so I'm going to give you the ticket."
"If you don't mind, could you please stand behind my car for a second and I would be glad to rev it to 8k RPM's so that you can see it is not loud at all and that all of the noise comes from the motor, which came in this car from the factory."
*laughs*
"Sign here and then I will listen....okay go ahead and start it up and I'll go back and listen"
"Sir, the car has been running the entire time you have been talking to me. I told you it is not loud at all."
*goes to back of car*
*motor revving to 8k...*
"Well it gets a little bit deeper but it isn't loud at all."
"Yes, so do you really have to give me the ticket? I've already proven that I didn't violate the law as it is stated by CHP."
"Well the way the law is written we are able to write tickets for this type of circumstance, but it seems your evidence is already in order so you shouldn't have any trouble getting the case dismissed."
"I understand that but I work full time and go to school and I really don't have the time to fight this ticket."
"Sorry. Have a nice day."
"Thanks."

Hey Bob...Sorry to hear you got a ticket. I haven't been having much luck with CHP this year either. You should go to traffic court with your ticket. When i got my speeding ticket a while back the judge didn't charge me for the ticket just for traffic school which was 150 dollars. Good luck.
Wow, you had a legitimate excuse and proof and the officer still gave you a ticket. Yuck!
Sorry to hear that, but if you do have the time to fight it I'm sure you'll get out of it...good luck.

I hate ******* pigs that have nothing better to do than waste our time when they know damn well that we don't deserve a ticket.

Bob...I had the exact same problem when my exhaust was stock and I had an AEM cold air intake, he wouldn't admit it in front of the other 5 officers

So what's the easiest way (ie. least time consuming) to go about getting it dismissed?

The only place that is equipped with sound measuring equipment is at the Rohnert Park Public Safety building in Expressway.
They laugh, because NO ONE has EVER been too loud.
I believe the law states 95dB.. NOT even under a load!!! Open Header is quiet at 3K RPM and feathering the gas.. its the accel and decel thats loud..hehe

Seems as though they use the ticket to justify pulling you over and make it seem like the stop was worthwhile. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know it was quota time!
