91 CRX HF - Smog Fail
I fail the smog check twice. The first time the "CO" readings were way too high and the "NO" readings were very low(see photo). I suspected and change the O2 sensor with a cheap one. The second time I tested the car after replacing the 02 sensor, the "CO" reading dropped - way low, and the "NO" reading shot way up. The 15 mph test failed on High "NO"(see second photo).
- I can't find any Vacuum leaks
- I tested the EGR. It works - I applied vacuum at idle and the car almost stalls.
- I took the EGR off - the ports look very clean.
- This is a stock CRX. The spec for timing is 14 +/- 2 BTDC. When I run the car through smog the timing is set between 15/16 BTDC.
- I use 87 Octane.
- The air filter is new.
- The Temp. gauge indicates the cooling system is fine.
I'm guessing I need to check the plugs/cap/rotor/fuel filter/pvc valve next?
This CRX has 160,000 miles and has always passed smog with no problems. Could the CAT be bad? The "NO" numbers were very low until the O2 sensor was replaced. Wouldn't that indicate that the CAT is fine?
Any suggestions would be appricated.
(Sorry for no photos, I can't find Manage Attachments to post photos, I think its turned off)
Here are the numbers
First Smog
Test CO2 O2 HC CO NO
15 mph 14.6 .1 50 .91 89 FAIL
25 mph 14.3 .1 82 1.36 238 FAIL

Please post the Emissions Report sheets.
The second test indicated that the engine is running lean. This can be caused by low fuel pressure, so start by replacing the fuel filter.
Any CEL codes?

Definitely need the smog sheet.
Seems like you took a look at a lot of things already so this is not really relevant at this point - I'm just curious - have you checked to see if the EGR holds when you pull vacuum on it?

NO CEL codes.
I would like to post the reports, But I can't find a "Manage Attachments" on the Reply or Post page. At the bottom of the page I see "Additional Options" but there is no listing for - Manage Attachments.
Could this be turn off because I'm a new member?
Thanks

The Rules sticky at the top (bottom of first post) has links describing two different methods for posting pictures. Please take a look.

You have to upload them to somewhere like photobucket.com
Take the URL from photobucket and enclose it in IMG code within your message text
That would be [ IMG] -URL- [ /IMG]
(Without the spaces before IMG and /IMG)

Clayton, our site administrator, verified that you are correct that Trial Users are unable to use the Attachment feature to post pictures. He has now added this limitation to the Trial User information in the FAQ drop down menu. However, as you already know, Trial Users can post pictures using PhotoBucket or other external picture upload sites.

And this^ is a viable alternative to using the attachment feature. Both methods are described in detail in the links found in the Rules sticky.
I was able to fix the second sheet you uploaded to PhotoBucket (see your first post). The trick is to paste the IMG code for the picture into your post.
I now also fixed the first sheet.
Both sheets now display in your first post.

Thanks for the posting lesson.
The EGR holds when I pull a vacuum.
I will replace the fuel filter. Probably has never been changed.
I will also reset the ECU. I didn't do this after replacing the O2 Sensor.
Also, I only drove the car for about 15 min before the test. I'll extend that to half an hour on the freeway.
Thanks for this info.

Thanks for your guidance. Passed "NO" by two points.

Thanks Again
