Please help:Speedo not working code 17 pic included
Hi I Have a 90 dx hatch automatic speedo doesn't work .my cel comes on 15mins after runing the car and when i shut it off it resets.I bought the car like this.the cable is out of the trans but I guess the speedo gear is missing it looks like or it broke off is that possible and how can i fix it can someone help me i included the picture.
Looks like it broke off alright, unless the picture was taken so perfectly straight down. If it is flush with the housing the only answer I can give you is it has to be pushed out from the inside. Maybe someone else here has another option.
Check engine list is going to come on every time after you left off the gas and drop below like 2-2500rpm and your gas milage will be poor cause youre in limp mode.

So where is the gear suppose to be on top that hole or inside the trans .the little hole isn't hollow it goes down less then an inch cause I pick shards of metal and rock out of it.i cannot find a pick anywhere of what it's suppose to look like.
Well I can't post pics from here but google VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor - some are electronic haveing wire instead of cable) and you'll see what it's suposed to look like. Looks like the gear part is still in there. It should have a tube sticking up (an extended version of the bright ring you see in your pic) that the speedometer cable pugs in to. There is really know way to get your cable to stay on there now. The rest of the VSS has to be removed. Normally pulls right out if you can grip it but is prolly stuck which is no doubt how it broke off.

the VSS sensor in the photo is off a 92+ car. our cars have a cable that connects to the instruments cluster.

that's correct, and i suspect that getting a speedo cable will actually get you all the parts needed.
To me, it looks like #3 is missing along with the screw and special washer.
The hole going into the transmission is really small in your pic.
It should bigger to fit the gear/shaft #4 into the trans.
The shadow gives the illusion that something is sticking out.
If so, get a good set of vice grips and grab on to it.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle and keep wiggling until you can get it out of there.

Nope. Was saying if anything was sticking out above the surface of the transmission that you could grab on to.
When you get the replacement, then you'll know what you need to do.
