Default 93 Civic DX/D15B7 - Can I swap in a D15B8?

Timing belt broke on my 93 Civic DX with a D15B7 engine. I have a spare complete D15B8 engine. Can these be swapped and if so what would be involved?

One for one swap, use the correct ECU, that should be about it. Before you go through with it, why not verify you have to at all? A buddy of mine had his belt break on his car and was lucky enough to not have bent any valves.

Thanks for the info. Will check the head for bent valves but it some pretty bad noises when it happened. I don't have the ECU for the D15B8 just complete engine and trans. So it will not run with original ECU?

Resetting the mechanical timing and doing a cylinder compression test should provide the answer without tearing the engine down.

The engines require different ECUs and possibly different engine wire harnesses or wire modifications.

It'll run but the fuel maps are different (different injectors, B8 use 195cc vs all else 235cc). In addition the ignition timing is also different. I can't say it'll run the same/better/worse because I've never tried it so hopefully someone that has tried it will verify if it's safe to use your original ECU.
