Intake tests on the RSX-S
I know it isn't the Type R that they did the tests on, but has anyone read the article? I can't remember what mag it was in, but they did tests with the stock intake, stock with K & N filter, DC short ram, DC CAI, jackson racing, AEM CAI, etc, etc, etc.
Both the cold air intakes made 20+hp over stock and 5.5+ torque over stock where as all the other short ram intakes made at the most 10+hp and not as much torque gain.
I guess my question is after this why wouldn't everyone change from a short ram to a cold air intake after seeing something like that?
I've had the AEM CAI and I know the throttle response isn't as good, but with hp numbers twice as good (on a RSX-S) the throttle response isn't that bad.
I do know that the numbers wouldn't be so huge on the ITR, but the RSX-S isn't a car that comes with just **** on it.
After reading the article I'm glad I got the CAI and not a short ram......
I guess I just want to know if the J's Racing intake is all that? Yes it's pretty, but is it going to give the numbers of a CAI?

no not just the J's. I've read all the posts. It was just kind of a broad open question for people to throw out some oppinions. Not the try the search one either.
I've seen that one plenty of times.

apparentyl the reason it gained so much id buc when they dynoed it they reset the ecu for the basline run and Don't break it in or let it "learn", then for the intake run they reset it for the intake and let it learn first...
you did not read all the posts because your questions WOULD have been answered.
the J's will most definitely NOT produce numbers like the CAI. you'll lose some/a little(i don't know how much for fact), but the biggest plus about the J's is the throttle response which was posted in practically EVERY J's racing intake thread on this board.
throttle response. period.

will the throttle response make up for the higher hp and torque numbers?
how much is the throttle response worth?
are we talking 1/1000 of a second difference?
1 foot off the start?
I know it makes a difference, but then what about the 10 feet you gain after 2 1/2 or 3 gears?
I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong just want to see what other people value more?
I've been looking for dyno stuff with stock, CAI, and J's, but haven't seen anything yet.

You cannot compare that dyno test to ITR's. On a ITR the AEM makes AT THE MOST 10hp. If the js only makes 5hp that difference is negledgable.
Bah. Intakes are snake oil.
The reason the RSX-S saw such a jump in power with a CAI is that the position of the stock intake on those cars really sucks. It's not possible to get cool air to that location easily. As far as I know, all of the CAI intakes for the RSX require you to relocate things (like the battery) so they'll fit.
On the ITR it's a different story. The stock intake draws cold air and is farther from the engine. Stock intake + K&N is all you need IMO.

we've had enough intake threads to choke the Mississippi. get what you want, what you can afford.....if you have to ask if the throttle response is worth it, i dont think you will notice....
I've already got what I want, but I figured people who have run their car stock, CAI, and short ram (possibely J's) could throw out some answers like, "I like this, but dont like that abou this one, etc, etc, etc"
I do know people who don't know what they want and would like to know if that RSX-S test is somewhat comparable to the R.
It would be sweet if everytime you were thinking about getting a mod you could put 5 different types of that mod on your car and do tests, but you can't so you have to read different things to figure it out. I had just read an article and all the J's stuff with the throttle response or lack of it (CAI) and wanted to see what people here had to say.
Thanks!

I have posted what I like about each and I will do so again.
AEM CAI - Good spike midrange, then dips and some more 7k+ rpm gains. Sorry throttle response
J's Racing - Power is smooth and linear, no spikes, less power made than the AEM CAI. Floor and Go.

I tell you what I like: Drop in Comptech Foam Air Filter and Modified Stock Airbox with ram air duct. Works marbels!
