Default H22a revs to 6500, but no CEL codes!

What's going on? Everything still works, VTEC and all but the engine will on;y rev to 6500 rpms....stock ecu....and even with another stock ecu!

Any ideas? We checked and there are no CEL codes associated with the rev problem

What happens when you hit 6500?

Hard fuel cut. Like a rev limiter. THis is my stock engine in somebody else's car. Another prelude, same year, same ecus

Has the engine reached full operating temp when you've tried this?

yup this is with regular driving. VTEC works, and it wouldn' engage if the engine was cold anyway. I'm stumped man.

My lude does this if it's cold, or more specifically, if the oil pressure / temp isn't up to the point where VTEC can safely engage. Check that first. Sounds like a funny sensor or maybe a VTEC problem (but I'd expect a CEL).

I'm too lazy to go digging around through wiring diagrams and sensor signal info, but for what could be a helpful hint: there is one mode of operation which the ECU will naturally do that with the H22... when it's not in a gear. I haven't tried to see if it will also do this when the clutch is fully depressed but a gear is selected, but I'd be surprised if it didn't. So what could you have done that would make the ECU think the car isn't in gear?

swap ecu's with another working one, that you KNOW WORKS
its also possible the CEL bulb is burnt out.

we swapped ecus same thing. We pulled a VTEC code once so the bulb works. A post on PO.com thinks it's related to oil pressure....

Hmm...well We had to swap plugs for the engine so one of the wires may have be done improperly. Is there a wire that tells the ecu what gear it's in? or pin?

maybe you're running in limp mode and you don't know it. check the oxygen sensor(s). it's become a regular problem on my friend's b18c+++ EH2.

Very bizarre but we tracked down the problem. Apparently whoever wired the V-AFC funked something up. When we cut the V-AFC and reconnected the wires it works perfectly!

I wasn't there for the wiring but he said there was a white/yellow wire being used, which is bizarre because that should be the ECM backup power wire. I don't know how it was being used, but I know that it shouldn't be involved in wiring a V-AFC! Anyways revs to redline now.
